it's getting close now....this Saturday! 6/27 (and beyond)

This coming
Saturday evening 06/27 on Vh-1.
Filmed LIVE at the Congress Theater inChicago, Il on
March 31st 09.
It would be easy to write these three pioneers
(yes, I said
pioneers) off as they embark on the 6th decade on
the planet,
and the 4th decade of using them same 3 chords to
make some of
the best Texas boogie - blues ever recorded.
Having said that I can
only feel privileged to have had this
opportunity to experience history
in the making, a mere 5 feet
away, stage left.

ZZ Top -- the major rock band that holds the record for the most enduring line-up of all original members -- had the audience on their feet as they celebrated their 40 year anniversary with an episode of VH1 Storytellers taped at Chicago's Congress Theatre on March 31st 2009. The Texas trio answer questions from the audience, renew one couple's wedding vows, and tell the stories behind such hits as "La Grange" (about the real "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas") and "Sharp Dressed Man" (during the song's video shoot a homeless person started critiquing everything on the set and band and crew went on to follow his advice). Also in the hour, guitarist Billy F Gibbons talks about the band's travails as opening act for Janis Joplin and bassist Dusty Hill shows off his Walter Brennan imitation. In addition to the hits noted above, the episode will feature the band revealing the inspiration and stories behind such classic hits as "Just Got Paid," "Jesus Just Left Chicago," "Gimme All Your Lovin'" and "Tush."

NOTE: Some of you by now have heard my mention &
promotion of this Vh-1 Storytellers session. The video
segment above is only a portion of the hour long show.
I do NOT appear in this particular segment with an actual
speaking part. I am located stage left (Dusty's side) right
behind the big, bearded biker-guy.
